ABOUT THE WOOD
We at Zuni guitars have been working with instrument grade custom woods for over 25 years. We have harvested, cut on the sawmill, turned veneer, especially in the high grade maples and we are some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry in instrument grade woods. Our woods have been cut by us personally so you are dealing directly with the wood cutters. How many people in the industry can tell you that the guitar that we built for you was cut and harvested by the builders?
We take pride in having such a close contact with our wood for fabrication since each individual blocks of wood have their own particular weight, density, color and tone qualities. We particularly specialize in exhibition grade figured maples which include sugar maple, red, maple and big leaf maple for our necks and top woods. Our maples are matched and picked for their incredible figure. Some necks as well as tops come from the same tree. All of the Zuni Guitars are made out of these fine maples including all pick-up rings and access covers. No plastics.

Our body woods are made of the following wood species which are also harvested by us. These include green ash, white ash,and black ash as well as northern Black Cherry, Basswood, Cyprus and Yellow Cedar. All of the body woods are beautiful and have their own unique sound, weight and character.
We at Zuni Guitars feel the wood is the basis for much of the tone and sound of the instruments so we take great pride in the knowledge and specialization that we have in this area. There are no Tropical hardwoods in our necks, bodies or tops.
